After opening the package, I thought for sure I had wasted my money. But out on the river, this works like a charm. Simple and reliable, it holds my 5 weight rod beautifully so I can tie up line and exchange flies while standing in the current. Great little tool.I have the name brand version of this item, but needed a spare for my young son. I'm torn on whether I should just spend twice the amount for another name brand, or let him use this one.The problem is the aluminum housing is cut pretty sharp, not rounded on any of the corners or edges especially where the rod enters. It would be VERY easy for someone to score the side of their rod on the sharp aluminum while inserting in a hurry, like while landing a fish, or such. Score line then equals rod snapping on the next big fish.I will probably just take a file and some green abrasive pad to it and round off the corners... But buyers should be aware of the issue. This product would be a home run if they took the time to round and polish down the corners and edges so they weren't sharp.Edit - Changed my mind; just going to return it. Not worth the risk to expensive rods, going to get the name brand version.I am fishing in rocky canons and this helps keep the rod and real off the rocks.
