This alarm clamps on nice and securely within arm's reach. It won't fall off your rod like bells.Your line feeds through it and the alarm goes off when your line gets a pull. Light waves don't seem to set it off, which is good.If you want to let your line out fast, this DOES hinder that. You have to manually help the line out.When you get a fish, you are going to want to turn off the alarm and disengage your line quickly before you reel it in. Otherwise, the alarm will continue to sound and you can't reel in as smoothly.The alarm is obnoxiously loud. When you are outside, perhaps it needs to be loud, but this is a really obnoxious blare of an alarm.Overall, this works, but I'm not sure I will want it on all my fishing poles. May be nice to have on a second unattended rod.
